Destination - Colorado Springs

Where the plains of Eastern Colorado hug the Rockies, there runs a slope from past Fort Collins down to Colorado Springs, farther yet.
There is a narrow slice of time between the cool autumn nights and the frozen moments of the upcoming winter, a time when the first early blanket of snow covers the land that is not yet ready to give up its colors. The higher elevations have their 30-plus inches, expected begrudgingly, but with the grace of tradition, acceptance -------

The morning arrives in mid-October, and the dry snow unsuccessfully covers the still vibrant hues of the autumn. For short moments, the ground is dry underneath, and the air is breathless, silent. Tomorrow’s morning sun will start the temporary retreat back into fall, perhaps a few weeks leeway, a month?

Icelake.
Winter will have the advantage then, no retreat. This is the bridge, that existing gap where life still has its face of summer, flowers undamaged, with but a reminder of its next phase. White on gold, white on crimson & purples, flowers imitate evergreens, brief colors glimmer, radiant under white skies.
